Wilma Vesta
Brotherton
June 6, 1925 – January 30, 2022
Wilma Vesta (Buckner) Brotherton died January 30, 2022 in Springfield, MO at the age of 96. She was born June 6, 1925, to W.F. and Tina Buckner, in Fair Grove, Missouri, where she resided until graduation in May 1942. She then moved to Springfield where she attended college and has resided since. She was united in marriage to Wilbur (Bill) Brotherton on November 15, 1945. He preceded her in death in January 1983. They had one son, David Lee Brotherton.
Wilma was saved at the age of 13 and was a member of Baptist Temple in Springfield. She was an active member of Robberson, Reed and Hillcrest School PTAs during the 12 years of David's schooling. She retired from Springfield R12 Food Service in 1999, spending the last 19 years working at Robberson School. After retirement Wilma spent 6 years volunteering with the children at Delaware School on their community trips. She also volunteered many hours at Crosslines Resource Center.
In addition to her parents, Wilma is preceded in death by 3 sisters, 2 brothers and 1 great-granddaughter.
Survivors include her son, David, of Paducah, KY; 4 grandsons and their families: Steven of Lee's Summit, MO; Kevin of Eddyville, KY; Rusty of Lee's Summit, MO; and Andy of Pleasant Hill, MO. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Mary Smith, of Springfield, MO; many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Services will be held at Klinger-Cope at Rivermont on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2:00 PM with visitation at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Springfield, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
