William David Butcher, 91, of Springfield, MO passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. He was born in Lebanon, MO on April 19, 1923.

He married Anita Joyce (Clayton) Butcher and they have three children. He retired from City Utilities. He enlisted in the United States Army on May 8, 1941 and served in Company K, 1st Infanty, 6th Division. He fought throughout the New Guinea Campaign and the invasion of the Philippines in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. During his service he was honored with a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Metal, American Defense Ribbon and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Veteran of World War II and honorable discharge was on September 29, 1945.

David is preceded in death by his wife Anita Butcher; granddaughter Holly Butcher; sister Phyllis Robinson and his brother Wayne Butcher.

He is survived by his son Joe Don Butcher; daughters JaNell Hedges and Karla (Ken) Divin; two grandsons Kenny and Benjamin Divin (Jenay Lamy); sisters Rita Hixon and Willa (Junior) Wood; brother Edward Butcher, sister-in-law Eloise Sprenger; brother-in-law Otto (Pat) Clayton; special friends Kay Owen and family.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2014 from 2-3 p.m. at Campbell United Methodist Church 1747 E. Republic Rd Springfield, MO 65804 with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. burial will take place at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
