Walter Wright Simpson, 81, of Springfield, MO passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024. He was born on Friday, December 18, 1942 in Mayfield, KY to Mary Rives Wright and Benjamin Ivey Simpson, Jr..

Walt was born in Mayfield, KY and grew up in Tifton, GA. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Chemistry and from the Medical College of Georgia in 1969. Walt married the love of his life Virginia "Ginny" Levesque in June 1969 and to this union three children were born. They made their home in Columbus, GA and in 1984, moved to Springfield, MO. Walt was one of the founding ER doctors when Cox South opened and remained with the Cox Medical Center until his retirement in 2006. He loved all sports, running, working in the yard, caring for others and driving for Meals On Wheels. Above all else, he loved spending time with his friends and family.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia Simpson, one son Greg Simpson, one brother Ben Simpson and one brother-in-law Ed Almeida.

He is survived by his two daughters Jennifer Inman (husband Terry) of Springfield, MO and Amy Knight (husband Joe) of Chicago, IL, six grandchildren Gregory and Johnathan Miller, Katie, Caroline, Claire and Ava Knight, one brother Bobby Simpson (wife Bonnie) of Tifton, GA, two sister-in-law's Jan Simpson of Macon, GA and Joanne Almeida of Springfield, MO and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.

A visitation will be held from 3-5 PM on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave., Springfield, MO 65804 with funeral services to follow at 11 AM on Monday, July 22, 2024 at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 922 W. Republic Rd., Springfield, MO 65807. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association-Greater MO Chapter, 901 E. St. Louis Ste. 702, Springfield, MO 65806.
