IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Marie
Long
December 14, 1946 – February 13, 2022
Virginia Marie Long, 75, of Kansas City, MO passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022. She was born on Saturday, December 14, 1946 in Springfield, MO to Eugene Franklin Brooks and Wilma Wanda Epperson.
Virginia was widowed from Larry Dennis Long. They were married on March 9, 1991, through Larry's passing in 2008. Her first marriage was to Donald David Swain and they were married from October 16, 1965 until 1976. They had two sons Donald and Brent. Virginia was born and raised in Springfield, MO. She was in the first graduating class of 1964, at the new Hillcrest High School. Her first job was at Rothermel's Sundries on Kearney and her favorite job was being a secretary at Ruskin Height's Baptist Church. She held various other jobs with the longest being 23 years at Ashland Chemical. She cherished spending time with family and friends! I am sure everyone has fond memories of her visits. She also loved sending letters and cards, for all occasions. The postal service must have loved her for all the stamps she needed! Virginia loved helping others and was a generous giver of her time. She recently was helping at Breaktime for Seniors. She truly had the heart of a servant! What a wonderful legacy. One hobby was collecting pigs. Her dad, Eugene, gave her one in 1982 as a bit of a joke and it took on a life of its own. Over the years, her collection grew to several hundred pig-themed collectibles! A favorite memory of her brother, James, was that no sooner than being done with a 'fat farm boy breakfast' they would already be discussing lunch. The trait apparently did not skip a generation from their mom. Another time, the brothers were fishing off the boat dock at Larry and Virginia's Lake of the Ozark home. Virginia offered to bring drinks back to them but ended up chatting with Larry and Eugene and forgot the drinks. Her brothers returned home late in the night and told her they had to drink lake water to survive!
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Edward Brooks and husband Larry Long.
She is survived by her adult children Brent Swain, Don Swain (wife Dana). Also, by Larry 'Denny' Long Jr. and her brothers James (wife Beth), Arthur and Stephen Brooks (wife Deborah). Grandchildren include Alex, Vanessa, Isabelle, Xander and Gillian Swain, Matt, Danny and Sadie Long.
