Victor Emil Hughes, age 61, lost his battle with cancer Sunday morning June 17th 2012. Victor was born March 1, 1951 in Springfield MO to the late John B. and Effie M. Hughes. Victor attended school in Springfield and graduated from Central High School in 1969. He attended Drury University for 3 years before leaving school to begin his career in the restaurant business. Along with a friend, he opened Munchies Unlimited on March 8, 1974, a caf which specialized in home cooked foods, breads, and cakes. Victor was considered a modern day version of "the muffin man." He spent the majority of his career at Cartoons Oyster Bar & Grill where he joked that he served "three tours" totaling more than 20 years. Victor married his loving wife Cindy on March 22, 1986. They had two children, Rebecca Emily and Walker Jason. He was also the proud father of two furry, four-legged companions Morti and Loki. He enjoyed cooking, music of all kinds, traveling, working in his garden, playing softball, and most importantly loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and went to as many games as possible. Everyone that knew Victor had something nice to say about him and often spoke of his charismatic smile and humble demeanor. He will definitely be missed. Victor was preceded in death by his parents John B Hughes and Effie M. Jason Hughes Kent. He is survived by his wife Cindy, his children Rebecca and Walker, his sister Rowena (Michael) Conley, Fayetteville, GA, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. Services will be held Friday, June 22nd 2012 at 12:00 pm, at Klinger-Cope Funeral Home at Rivermonte. Victor has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Rebecca & Walker Hughes Education fund at Commerce Bank.
