Ms. Vickey Inez Cross, 68 journeyed home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 7, 2023.  Vickey was born in Newport, AR on March 1, 1955, to the parents of Mae Frances (Anderson) Cross Cook and J. B. Cross, both who preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Rheuben Todd Mathews; her oldest sister, Jimetta Scott and youngest brother; Lindsey Emel Cross.

Vickey graduated from Graff Vocational Technical School; Springfield, MO to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Burge School of Nursing; Springfield, MO to become a Registered Nurse (RN). Vickey was always very loving and nurturing to her family and friends. Vickey worked as an LPN and RN for 23 years At CoxHealth Medical Centers.  After leaving CoxHealth, Vickey began a new career at The United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners (MCFP) for 21 years before she retired.

Vickey leaves to cherish her precious memories her sons, Wayland Mathews; Shawn Mathews and Devon Carlock; one daughter, Latoya Mathews; her ex-spouse and longtime friend Clyde Mathews Jr.; two brothers: Cecil Cross and Cedric Cross; two sisters: Ada Cross and Marsha Brown; her four grandchildren, Nathan, Jayla, Addison and Kierston and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and many dear friends.

On Friday June 16, 2023; A family visitation will be held from 11:00 am-11:30 am; Open Visitation from 11:30 am-12:30 pm at Washington Avenue Baptist Church, Springfield, MO. Following the visitation, funeral services will then be held at 12:30 pm at the same location.

Burial will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, MO.
