Vera "Irene" Jones, age 94, of Galloway passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023, at the Ravenwood Assisted Living Facility. She was born on December 4, 1929 in Skiatook, OK the daughter of Charles and Blanche[Ramsey] Friebe.
She is a 1948 graduate of Ozark High school. Irene started working-at the age of 15- for Kresge[dime store] located on the Springfield square and that would be followed by Jupiter and K-mart before her retirement after 50+ years where she was a dedicated and loyal employee. The K-Mart corporation in 1993 recognized Irene as "Most Outstanding Associate". She started at the dime store as the "donut lady"—an affinity for donuts that continued during her entire life. She met the love of her life, Danny Jones, while working at the dime store on the square. They were united in marriage on July 10, 1948 and celebrated 66 years before Danny's death June 6, 2014. She was a longtime and dedicated member of the Galloway Baptist Church. In the Galloway area their garage sales were legendary, as was the effort she put into refinishing furniture. Her kindness, work ethic, generosity, ever present smile and laughter will be remembered by all.
Predeceasing her in death was her husband Danny, parents, sister Beryl Trachsel, brother[s] and sister[s]-in-law, Earl and Thelma Friebe, Gene and Jennie Friebe, sister[s]-in-law Fran Friebe, Jeannie Friebe, nephew Timothy Becker, Trachsel baby, a child of her heart L.P.[Jr] Robertson , longtime special friends Leo and Melba Mace and her furry companion, Nutmeg "The Kat".
Survivors include: Brothers Johnie Friebe[Springfield] and Lester Friebe[Strafford],brother-in-law Fred Trachsel[Hendersonville, NC.] numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, her children of the heart Beth Robertson, Becky Wilson, Paul & Allison Robertson along with her great grandboys-Clayton & Rhett Robertson and a multitude of friends that spanned across her church , working career and beyond. Not to be forgotten is her beloved furry companion, Marty "The Kat".
The family would like to extend their heartfelt and sincere "Thanks" to the Ravenwood Assisted Living Care Facility staff and Seasons Hospice Care for their compassionate and dedicated support as her health declined during the past several months.
Visitation will be held at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermont, 4500 S. Lone Pine, Springfield, Mo. starting at 10 AM followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow in Rivermont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made in Irene's name to Seasons Hospice Care [1831 W. Melville Rd. Springfield, Mo 65803], Galloway Baptist Church [2816 E. Republic Rd., Springfield, Mo 65804] or the charity of your choice.
