Mrs. Velma J. Young, 91, of St. Joseph, Missouri. passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Benedictine Living Community, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Velma Jean Young was born on Friday, October 7, 1932, in Springfield, Missouri. to Jeptha and Mary Rogers. She married John H. Young on May 4, 1949, in Boone County, Arkansas. In her early years, she enjoyed breeding and raising Poodles. Jean was mostly a stay-at-home mom and homemaker, but through the years she did enjoy gardening, planting flowers and solving puzzles and crosswords. With being so busy with home life and raising five children, Jean did not have a lot of time on her hands but really did enjoy spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jeptha and Mary Rogers; husband, John H. Young; three sons, Rick and Delbert Young and Rob Macpherson; two brothers, Don and Bobby Rogers; two sisters, Ruth Jones and Edna Baker.

Jean is survived by one daughter, Denise Rohwer and husband, Danny; two sons, Dennis Young and wife, Velma and John Young and wife, Jane; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; twenty-four great-great-grandchildren plus many step and foster grandchildren.

Visitation for Jean will be Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Klingner Cope Funeral Home at White Chapel; 5234 W. State Hwy EE, Springfield, Mo. 65802. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M Friday, June 28, 2024, in the funeral home with Pastor Larry Ball officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery: 7644 W. Farm Rd. 108 Springfield, MO. 65802.
