Troy L. Marler was born December 18, 1925, in Taney County, Mo., to Roy and Effie Marler, and passed from this life on May 17, 2012.
He was a long-time resident of Strafford. He was a member of Strafford United Methodist Church, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 81. Troy was active in 4-H, REACT, and for years helped raise money for the annual Jerry Lewis telethon for muscular dystrophy. He was a truck driver and enjoyed helping others.
Troy was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being outdoors. After retirement he and Martha spent several years traveling with their fifth-wheel trailer. Later in life he took up oil painting. His "part-time" dog Miss Mattie brought hours of joy to his life.
Troy is survived by one daughter, Barbara Kahler and husband Virgil of Mesa, AZ; one son, Troy Michael and wife Jann of Strafford, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Marler and husband Chris Gundlach of Creve Coeur, Jeff Marler and wife Hannah of Strafford, Nick Kahler and wife Angie of Gilbert, AZ, and Lindsey Kahler of Chandler, AZ; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mae Persinger and Tressie Manley, one brother, Donald, and a host of other family and friends.
Martha, the love of his life and wife of 60 years, preceded him in death, as did his parents; one sister, Mildred; and three brothers, Glendale, Quincy and C.D.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home, 1635 N. Benton. The funeral service will be held on Monday, at 11 a.m. at Strafford United Methodist Church, 200 S. Jefferson St., Strafford, Mo. Interment will follow at Dishman Cemetery.
