Steven Welton, 42, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away in a tragic accident on
Saturday, December 27th. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, November 8th, 1973, to John and
Doris Welton. He graduated from Worth County R-III in 1992 and went on to study criminal
justice at Kaplan University.
Steven and Tessa wed on August 17, 2009. They welcomed son Tristan on April 18,
2010. Steven was an involved and loving father and husband. Steven always put the needs of others before his own. As a young man, he served in the Army and was stationed in South Korea. He was a firefighter in Iowa. Most recently, he worked tirelessly to support his family as a plumber in Springfield, Missouri. Steven enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved the Cubs (and showing off his Cubs tattoo!), Bud Light, softball, and most of all spending time with his family. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed grilling, camping, and boating. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, intelligence, humor, and selfless nature. Steven had a knack for putting a smile on the face of everyone he came into contact with. He was always quick with a joke and had a contagious laugh.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Welton; maternal grandparents Otto and
Florence Stonehocker; and paternal grandparents, William and Lena Welton.
He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Tessa Welton, son Tristan, father John Welton,
sisters Annette Wooden (Robert), Susan Breuklander, and brothers David Welton (Christina) and
Brian Welton (Michelle), and a host of friends.
His life will be celebrated in a private service on Sunday, January 3rd.
