Shirley Stuart Adams Laws, 89, of Springfield, MO passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday, June 28, 1934 to Frederick Charles Stuart and Florence Louise Stelzer Stuart.
After graduating from High School she worked at Southwestern Bell and the United States Government. She married and was blessed with five children. Pamela DePrender Tharp (the late Jackie Tharp), Debbie DePrender Lyons (William Newton), Sherri DePrender Weeke (Bryan Fuchs) Glenda Adams Stotler (Marvin) and Glenn Adams (Laura). Shirley was referred to as grandma by 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and was Aunt Shirley to several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her younger sister Gloria Poole. Shirley loved her family especially her grandchildren. She was a homemaker most of her life. After the passing of her husband Glennon Roy she found love again with husband James Walter later in life and enjoyed traveling with him and enjoying the restaurants and sites in St. Louis. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, the color red and squirrels. Shirley was always feeding the squirrels. After the passing of James she resided with family members and spent time in St. Louis, Illinois, and Springfield, MO. She was always surrounded by family, grandchildren and her beloved dog Walter.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one sister Marlene Stuart George and one brother Johnny Stuart.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Glendale Gardens in Springfield, MO for the care they provided. She had many friends at Glendale Gardens but especially Edna who was there every day to check in on her. Shirley was referred to as little baby. She will be deeply missed by her family and especially Walter James her Chihuahua. He was her baby boy. Walter will remain in Springfield so he can visit Shirley often. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Following cremation, Celebration of Life services will take place at a later date and time. She will be laid to rest at the Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave., Springfield, MO 65804. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to C.A.R.E. Castaway Animals Rescue Effort or the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri. She loved her little dog Walter James and would like to help other animals.
