Obituary

Sheryl Christine Smith Marcum was born August 14, 1957, in Richmond, Missouri to Martha and Vernie Smith. The family moved to Colorado in 1958 and remained there until 1970, when they moved to El Dorado Springs, Missouri.

Sheryl spent her high school years mastering the piano and violin. She was very talented with both and earned awards at the state level. She and her siblings also enjoyed singing together in the school and church choirs. She was a protector of siblings and family and always challenged the rules!

Sheryl graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1975. She was married to John Marcum in 1976 by his father, Reverend Ralph Marcum. Sheryl graduated from Burge School of Nursing (now Cox School of Nursing) in 1979 and she graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Drury University in 1987. Sheryl was a Registered Nurse for the Cox Health System serving in the respiratory unit as well as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She was able to impact many lives during her 39-year career, and many families were blessed to have her caring for their loved ones.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Vernie Smith and her in-laws, Rev. Ralph and Mary Amanda (Nan) Marcum. Sheryl is survived by her husband, John of Springfield; Her children: Jason and wife Adria Marcum of Republic; Bobbie Marsh of Springfield and Kelly Marcum of Springfield. Sheryl was blessed with five grandchildren: Dean, Olivia and Brenna Marcum and Dylan and Tyler Marsh. She is also survived by her three siblings: sister Debra and husband Cole Roe of Eldorado Springs; brother Randall and wife Susan Smith of Springfield; and sister Brenda and husband Ron Groover of Republic. Sheryl had many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, as well as an extended family that she cherished and adored.

Sheryl loved her family and everything she did was for each and every one of them. She had a God given ability to help others and she did that for her family daily; frequently putting others' needs above her own health and wellbeing. One of her goals in life was to be the very best wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt she could possibly be. She far exceeded that goal and will be remembered and loved by all who were blessed enough to be a part of her life.
