Ronald Lee Carey, 61, went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2012 ending a long struggle with cancer. Ron was born March 31, 1951 to Melvin and Barbara Carey. He was preceded in death by his father in 1959. Ron is survived by his mother, Barbara Ann Carey and his brother, Larry Dwayne Carey of Springfield and by his lifetime best friend Rila Jean Archer of Lawrence County.
Ron was a lifetime resident of Springfield. He graduated from Central High in 1969 and graduated from SMSU with a Bachelor''s Degree in Political Science in 1977. He worked as an intern and part-time employee in the Planning Dept. of the City of Springfield during high school then became a career employee of the Planning Department from which he retired in 2010.
Ron has been a member of Grace Nazarene Church since the age of 9. He will be greatly missed by his church family, his "City" family, by a host of friends and by his family.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Gary Dysart, retired City of Springfield employee, whose friendship and unfailing support throughout Ron''s illness has been such a blessing. Thanks to all who have given of themselves and of their time and resources to lighten the load as Ron made his journey home.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 3rd at 2 p.m. in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home, 1635 N. Benton, Springfield.
