Robert Lee Young, 75 passed away October 14, 2014 while battling cancer. He was born on April 18, 1939 in Springfield, MO to Cecil and Herma Young.
He attended Willard schools where he was active in music programs and was the President of his FFA chapter. After graduating high school in 1957, Robert was trained as a medic in the US Army Reserves and was stationed at Fort Eustis in Virginia. He also attended Southwest Missouri State University where he studied conservation. Robert married his wife, Marty on September 15, 1962. He was retired from the US Postal Service, where he worked for 37 years. Robert was a long time member of Elwood United Methodist Church.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting and gardening. He could often be found spending time with his family and could always be depended on to provide wise advice to his younger siblings. Robert also enjoyed sports and was a very proud grandpa when watching his precious granddaughter, Mia, play softball.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marie Shields, and nephew Randy Young. He is survived by his wife, Marty Young of the home; son Kevin Young and daughter-in-law Joy Young of Willard; granddaughter Mia Young of Willard; brothers Rick Young of Clever; Jim Young and his wife Juanita of Springfield, John Young and his wife Barbara of Springfield; sisters Mary Longenecker and her husband Gary of Nixa and Carol Griffin and her husband Bill of Willard; brother-in-law Jim Shields of Springfield. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 6 till 8 p.m. at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel, 5234 W State Hwy EE (Division), Springfield, MO. A service will be held Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens
