Dr. Robert O. Yendes, D.D.S. 90, of Kimberling City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 12, 2018. Robert was born on December 16, 1927 in Kansas City, KS to Robert O. Yendes Sr. and Annabel Grace Yendes (Fisher).

Robert graduated from Rosedale H.S. in Kansas City, KS in 1944 at age 16 and attended the University of Kansas from 1944-1948. He was a member of the K.U. football and basketball teams and the President of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He had many adventures flying Piper Cub aircraft. Robert graduated in 1948, enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served as a medic in Korea.

On March 5, 1949 Robert married the love of his life, Marianne McBride. To this union, they were blessed with three wonderful children; Sara, Carl and Paul. Robert and Marianne were married for 58 years before her passing in 2007.

In 1954 Robert graduated from UMKC Dental School, and in that same year he opened his own dental practice in Independence, MO.  In 1963 Robert founded and served as President of The Independence Dental Center Inc., the first dental practice organized as a corporation in the state of Missouri. Robert continued to practice dentistry for 35 years, retiring in 1989 to their home on Table Rock Lake in Kimberling City, MO.

Robert was an active member of, and served as past President of the Optimist Club of Independence, MO as well as the Greater Kansas City Dental Association. He was a founding member and one of the owners of Rockwood Country Club in Independence.

Robert had many hobbies and interests, including golf and bowling, but his favorite past times were hunting and fishing, particularly with his close friends and family. He loved to travel to locations around the world, especially with Marianne.  Robert was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Independence, MO and Kimberling City United Methodist Church.

Later in life he enjoyed visits with his family and friends, smoking good cigars and the beautiful view of Table Rock Lake from the deck of his home.  He very much enjoyed watching KU basketball, Kansas City Chiefs football and Kansas City Royals baseball. He never met a crossword or Sudoku puzzle that he couldn't solve.. even at the age of 90!

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert O. and Annabel Yendes, his loving wife Marianne and In-Laws : Georgie Johnson, Corrine (William)Forlow, Virginia (Charles) Braden, Jennyvee (Morrill) Martin, Roberta (Lewis)Roberts, William McBride, George Alspaugh and Gloria Yendes.

Robert is survived by his children, Dr. Sara (Scott) Shull, Carl (Nancy) Yendes Esq, and Paul (Annette)Yendes; grandchildren Megan (Ben) Harvey, Robert (Keira) Shull, Carl Yendes Jr, Anna Yendes, Matthew (Katie) Yendes, Zachary (Alexandria Juett) Yendes and Nicole Yendes; and 6 great grand-children. Siblings, Dr. Albert E. Yendes and Doris Alspaugh, sister in law Judy McBride and best friend Hadley Reimal and friend and former partner, Dr. Terry C. Williams, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and countless friends. Robert's wit and humor will be greatly missed.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Charlie, Melinda, Diane and Misty and the staff of Hospice Compassus of Branson, for the love, support, dignity and care that they showed their Dad during his final days. Special thanks to the Hematology-Oncology staff at Ferrell Duncan, for the care you extended to our Dad; especially Dr. Jiantao Ding, you have been such a blessing.

Family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 1-2 p.m in the Chapel at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte (4500 South Lone Pine, Springfield, MO). A Funeral Service to follow at 2 p.m  with burial at Rivermonte Memorial Garden immediately after the Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tri-Lakes Humane Society. P.O.
