IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Maurice
Wiles
May 15, 1938 – January 8, 2020
Richard M. "Dick" Wiles, 81, was born May 15, 1938 to Maurice and Edna (Western)
Wiles in Clark County, Wisconsin. He passed from this life peacefully January 8, 2020 at
Willard Care Center in Willard, Missouri with his loving wife, Betty, at his side.
Dick came to know and serve the Lord in the Lutheran church, which he attended all his life until his health
hindered his ability to do so. Dick was born and raised in the Stanley, Wisconsin area where he
grew up working in the family cheese making business. In 1960, he moved his family to Milan,
Missouri to run the family's new cheese making factory with his brother, Tom. After the factory
closed in 1967, he moved to Clinton, Missouri, first working at Clearfield Cheese and eventually
building what became a lifelong career as an independent insurance agent. On October 17, 1987
he married Betty (Moore) and later moved to Springfield, Missouri where he continued his
career as an insurance agent until retirement in 2012.
Dick was ever the salesman, able to talk to anyone anywhere and enjoyed spending time
in Branson going to shows and visiting Silver Dollar City. He liked football; watching sons Rick
and Kirk play in high school and cheering for (and yelling at) the Kansas City Chiefs every
Sunday. Dick delighted in keeping an immaculate home and yard where he could often be found
smoking meat on his Big Green Egg. He was an incredible host and enjoyed entertaining friends
and family for holidays or just a family game night. Dick was a joy to talk with because he truly
listened and took interest in what was shared with him.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Edna Wiles, one brother, Jerry
Wiles, and one son, Kirk Wiles.
Dick is survived by his wife, Betty, of their home, son Rick (and
Mary) Wiles of Arkansas, stepchildren; Brad (and Holly) Howe of Clinton, Missouri, Angela
(and Byron) Wheeler of Collins, Missouri, and Mendy (and Charley) Ledbetter of El Dorado
Springs, Missouri, siblings; Tom (and Donna) Wiles of Milan, Missouri, Jack (and Sandy) Wiles
of Normal, Illinois, Kathy (and John) Sherman of Terrell, Texas, and surviving sister-in-law
Mariane Wiles of Watertown, South Dakota, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a
host of other friends and family.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Willard Care Center and Preferred Hospice for
their compassionate, competent, and considerate care during the end of Dick's life. A memorial
service for Richard "Dick" Wiles will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 925 E. Seminole St,
Springfield, Missouri 65807 on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 at 11:00 am.
