IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Merlin
Van Every Jr.
December 16, 1946 – October 14, 2025
The family of Richard Merlin Van Every Jr. regretfully announces his passing on October 14, 2025.
Richard was widely recognized for his resourcefulness and dedication, consistently supporting the aspirations of those around him. He approached each challenge with determination and ingenuity, turning ideas into reality through careful work and creativity. Beyond his technical skills—whether building, repairing, or devising innovative solutions—Richard devoted himself to his family's well being. He instilled in his children the values of hard work, problem-solving, and perseverance.
Richard's career included forest service, TV repair man, cable installer and later earning a degree in architecture and design and construction management. His professional accomplishments were complemented by a lifelong passion for woodworking, through which he crafted functional kitchen items, toys, furniture, games, and decorations for his loved ones. He cherished annual camping and canoe trips, taking his role as lifeguard for family excursions seriously.
Richard was born in 1946, in Miami, Oklahoma, to Freda and Richard M Van Every Sr., and grew up as the older brother to Thomas (Tom), who predeceased him. He met Ann at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and they married in 1970 in Fort Benning, Georgia, following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army due to heat stroke.
In 1972, Richard and Ann became baptized Jehovah Witnesses, devoting themselves to ongoing service, including volunteering at international conventions and contributing to the construction of Kingdom Halls in various communities.
Richard is survived by his wife, Margaret (Ann); his children Tabitha (Tab), Deborah (Debby), Jonathan, Mark, and Elizabeth (Liz); his sons- and daughters-in-law Brad, Dave, Lori, Abi, and Chris; his grandchildren Michelle, Nathaniel, Summer, Landon, Aston, Garrett, Lily, Malachi, and Keturah; and his great-grandchildren, Paisley, Anya, and Donovan.
His legacy endures through numerous projects which exemplify his principle: "Only way to do it is the right way, no matter how long it takes."
A celebration of his life will be held on October 31st at the Kingdom Hall, 3886 S Farm Rd 135, Springfield Mo 65807.
