Obituary

Richard David Carroll passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Springfield, MO, at the home of his eldest son, following a short illness. He was a believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is at rest in His presence.

He was born in Springfield on August 22, 1943, to Frank and Margaret Carroll. He was raised in the area by his parents, along with his older sister, Beverly. Richard attended Parkview High School and graduated from Central High School in 1961. During his freshman year he met and began dating Rexeane Jones. Shortly after graduation, they married on June 9, 1961. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year!

During high school Richard began working for Consumers Markets at Store #3. After several years, he transferred to the Consumers Warehouse, where he worked for 32 years. When Consumers Markets sold in the 1990s, Richard transitioned to a new line of work – owning and operating the Ben Franklin retail store on the town square in Mt. Vernon. Richard owned and operated the Ben Franklin in Mt. Vernon until 2011, when significant health issues required him to retire and they relocated back to Springfield, closer to family.

Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, many times taking the family on weekend camping trips to the Mark Twain National Forest. He enjoyed teaching his sons how to shoot and clean guns, building campfires, and taking hikes in the woods. A significant portion of Richard’s life was participating in the Free Masons. He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons, the Council of Cryptic Masons of Missouri, and the St. John’s Commandery of Knights Templar.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Carroll, his sister, Beverly Brake, his daughter-in-law Wendi Carroll, and his great-granddaughter, Aurora Grace Carroll. He is survived by his wife, Rexeane; his two sons -Jeff (Nikki) Carroll and Paul (Angie) Carroll; his four grandchildren - Rachel Carroll, Elizabeth Carroll, Zachary (EmmaRae) Carroll, Madison (Sutton) Porth; his four step-grandchildren - Steven (Lauren) Anderson, Robbie (Jodie) Anderson, Jacob (Ariana) Anderson, Rebecca (Allen) Edwards; his two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter due in October; his ten step-great-grandchildren; his two nephews - Greg and Brad Brake; and his honorary grandchildren Olivia Henderson and Ozzie Thomason.
