Raymond Wade Claspill passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Cox South Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Raymond was born on February 1, 1939, at Long Lane, Missouri to Loyd Claspill and Myrtle Lynch Claspill. Raymond was the second of four children. He attended Cowden School. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany. After his service, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and worked at a Safeway grocery store before he began work for the US Postal Service. It was during this time that Raymond married Margaret Fowler Claspill. Two children were born of the union: Kim (1967) and Wade (1969). Raymond and Margaret were married 23 years.
Raymond transferred to the Springfield Postal Service as a letter carrier and then as a supervisor and as a supervisor at Marshfield before assuming postmaster duties at Phillipsburg, Strafford, Marshfield and Webb City. He retired with over thirty years of service at fifty-three years of age. Raymond met his soulmate in Norma Mizer. She was also a postal employee. They were happily married for fifteen years before Norma succumbed to pancreatic cancer. They both loved big family gatherings and all it entailed. They were very active in Macedonia Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. Raymond served on many committees and was passionate about the new church daycare center. His church family was very important to him as well as his large, extended family. Raymond loved people. He was very fun-loving- quick with a joke or story, and always eager for a game of cards. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Myrtle Claspill, step-father Elmer Ford, and his beloved wife, Norma Claspill. Raymond is survived by his son Wade and Samae Claspill of Columbia, Missouri and daughter Kim Canole and Bob Gubbe of Buffalo, Missouri as well as grandchildren Brittany and Ryan Crouch, Kendall, Philip, and Grace Canole. He is survived by siblings brother Ray and Juathina Claspill, Springfield, Missouri; sister Roberta Henderson, Buffalo, Missouri, and sister Joan Henderson, Buffalo, Missouri. He is survived by a multitude of extended family, church family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. On Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Klingner-Cope funeral home at Rivermonte. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 10 a.m at Macedonia Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri.
