Obituary

Ray Batterson, 88 of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, MO. He was born in Akron, Colorado on September 27, 1926 to George and Ida Mae (Hollins) Batterson.

On December 24, 1944, Ray married Doris Elizabeth Hooper in Springfield, MO and enjoyed 32 years of marriage until her passing in November 1976. He participated in the Missouri Fox Trotters Association and was a member of South Haven Baptist Church. Ray loved to raise turkeys, donkeys, sheep, goats, cows, geese and horses. He enjoyed dancing, traveling and gardening.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Doris; one son, Keith; three sisters, Ocie Smith, Elsie Bumgarner and Virginia Rutledge.

Ray is survived by two daughters, Tonya Thurman (Gary) of Springfield, MO and Debbie Agee (Jerry) Brookline Station, MO; one sister, Shirley Brewer of Rogersville, MO; one brother, Ronnie Batterson of Rogersville, MO; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his loving companion of 15 years, Connie Saladin of Wichita, KS and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 6, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte Chapel, 4500 S. Lone Pine, Springfield, MO. Services will be Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10 AM with burial to follow in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens
