Obituary

Ovia Adeline George Evans was born November 19, 1920. She left us November 7, 2012. Ovia was the third of four children born to Jim and Ann George. They lived on a farm in Webster Co. where Ovia went to Teagues School, a one room school and at one time having her older sister as her teacher. She attended and graduated from Seymour High School in 1939. In order to attend high school she had to board with a "town" family and went home most weekends.

She married Herbert D. Evans on April 23, 1939 and they were married 67 years. They lived in Marshfield for most of those years and were active in the Marshfield Community. Ovia was a member of the Business and Professional Women, Seroptimist Club and transferred her membership from Marshfield Christian Church to National Avenue Christian Church after moving to Springfield in 1986.

Ovia retired as office manager from Webster Electric Co-op. Ovia was a very talented seamstress making many beautiful garments for herself and family. Ovia believed in family and love and certainly showered us with her care. Two nieces lived with Ovia and Herb for an extended period; one for her first two years and one for her senior year of high school. All three of her grandchildren, as they returned to the area to put down roots, lived with Mimi and Papaw.

Ovia was preceded in death by her parents J.J and Ann George, siblings Paul George, Pearl Hooten and Marguerite Vandiver and husband Herbert D. Evans.

She is survived by daughter Martie Anne (Martie) Cornell, son-in-law Ken Cornell, grandson Chris Cornell of Nixa, granddaughters Cindy Daugherty of Springfield and Susan Cornell of Branson, great granddaughter Kylee Daugherty of Springfield, special nieces Paula Huckaby of Springfield and Angie Leigh of Hilo Hawaii and special companion her dog Sophelia.

A visitation will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte Chapel, 4500 S. Lone Pine, Springfield, MO with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 P.M. and entombment in Rivermonte Mausoleum.

"Ovia, Mother, Mimi, Ove, whatever we called you none of us can imagine life without you. We loved you dearly and rejoice having you as long as we did."
