Obie
Jordan
Mar 16, 1927 — May 7, 2018
Springfield, MO
Obie Jordan departed this life on May 7, 2018 in Springfield, MO at the age of 91 years 1 month and 22 days. He is survived by daughter Virginia Jordan (Carl) of Alabama and son Dale Jordan (Wanda) of Crane, MO and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and a host of friends and neighbors. Preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, a daughter Brenda Renshaw, son Obie Martin Jordan, and three wifes; Wilma, Louise, and Claudia.
At the age of 17 he answered the call to serve in the Navy during World War II. Obie served 23 years in the Navy. He proudly spent his time on the destroyer Nelson, the 968' long aircraft carrier, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the sister to the Roosevelt, the Coral Sea, and lastly serving as Chief Petty Officer aboard the USS Orion destroyer tender.
His first love was his family, his church and his friends, but a very close second was his love for music. Obie was a talented musician and singer. He played in a number of bands in the Portsmouth, VA area and on the ships. He played with future star Gene Vincent on board the USS Nelson. Nearest and dearest to his heart was when he passionately served his Lord by answering the call to play his guitar and sing hymns at Charity Baptist Church's worship team, where he was a member.
After retiring from the Navy in 1968 after back surgery, he moved from Portsmouth, VA to Springfield, MO to take a job at the Federal Medical Center for Prisoners. He worked his way up to head Security Officer before retiring in 1990.
We would like to thank The Maples staff for the wonderful care he received in his last year.
