Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Quy, a cherished matriarch, devout woman of faith, and centenarian, peacefully passed away in the early morning of Friday, July 31, 2026, at the remarkable age of 103. She was born on Monday, March 19, 1923 in Tarkio, MO to William Donald Damewood Sr. and Daisy May (Craig) Damewood.

Millie grew up in Cainsville, MO alongside her beloved siblings Charlotte, William Jr. and Orvie, all of whom preceded her in death.

Her life was defined by her deep love for her family and her unwavering faith. In the early 1940s, she married her first husband, Russell Lee Herbst Sr., with whom she raised three wonderful children: Russell Jr. (Sonny), Anna Lee (Hurst), and Gloria Jean (Bevis). Following Russell’s passing in 1970, Mildred later found companionship and love again with her second husband, Kenneth Ulysses Quy, a proud World War II veteran. Kenneth preceded her in death in 1992. Mildred was also preceded in death by two of her children, her son Sonny in 1980 and her daughter Anna Lee (Hurst) on June 6, 2024. A long-time resident of the Springfield, Missouri area, Mildred was famously celebrated by her family for her sharp mind, quick wit and surprisingly tech-savvy nature, which she used to keep close tabs on her ever-growing family. In March 2023, she reached the historic milestone of her 100th birthday, surrounded by a massive surprise gathering of her 44 blood-related descendants. When asked about her secret to a long, full life, she beautifully attributed it to staying busy, keeping her family close and maintaining her steadfast faith.

Her legacy of love, strength and devotion lives on through her surviving daughter, Gloria; and her nine cherished grandchildren: Tonya, Chris, LaDena, and Robert Lee (children of Sonny); Russell, Marcy, and William (children of Anna); and Brandon and Brent (children of Gloria). She is also survived by a vast, adoring network of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel, 5234 W. State Hwy EE, Springfield, MO 65802 with funeral services to follow at 2 PM. Online condolences can be made at www.klingnerfuneralhome.com
