Obituary

Max Owen Carleton, Jr. left this life on November 5, 2011 in his home. He was with the family whom he loved fervently, the kitchen perfumed the air, and Max was surrounded by the sweeping countryside that brought him peace. He was born to Sarah Francis Carleton and Max Owen Carleton on July 30, 1946. Max graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City and served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
In 1977, Max left the SMSU campus with a degree in Technical Physics and, more importantly, the love of his life. He married Cathy Hildebrandt and celebrated that day for more than 35 years, 29 of those with their son Ian. Professionally Max found a home in the Traffic Signal Shop, a division of the City of Springfield''s Public Works Department until reaching the title of Supervisor and his blissful goal of retirement in 2008.
Max is survived by his wife and son, his niece and nephew and their children, his sister, and the laughter that resonates when we gather with those we love.
Special thanks to Dr. Tiriveedhi, the staff at the St. John''s Cancer Center and Unit 7D and especially to Dr. Norman Knowlton, his physician and friend for 30 years.
A memorial service will be held at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home, 1635 N. Benton, Springfield on Thursday, November 10 at 4 p.m. officiated by the Reverend Cathy Cox..
The family will hold a private committal service on Friday, November 11th at the Appleton City Cemetery.
