Private memorial services are planned for Mary Lou Gibson Luna, 77, of Springfield, who died Sept. 9, 2012, at Westside Healthcare Facility in Springfield. She was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Gainesville, the daughter of Cecil and Lois Power Gibson. She attended Gainesville High School but withdrew to get married. She earned her GED and later in life graduated from what is now Missouri State University with a B. S. degree in sociology. On June 1, 1951, she married Dois Luna in the home of U. H. Morrison in Howell County. They lived and worked together in several places. Later she and her husband settled in to work for Sunnyland Tours, Springfield. Together they traveled coast to coast and internationally leading sightseeing tours. The Luna''s were especially intrigued by ancient Egypt, and one of the highlights of their life together was traveling there to visit the ancient ruins, including the pyramids, and taking a cruise down the Nile River. She is survived by her four children and their families: Audie Luna and wife Patti of Springfield, Christy Dannaldson and husband Ron of Billings, Valerie Peres and husband Larry of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Carol Luna of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren plus a 13th on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Kerry Neal Luna. The family wishes to thank Hospice Compassus, Westside Healthcare Facility and Jordan Creek Healthcare for the support and care given to Mary and her family during her residence.
