Martha Dolores West, 90, departed Earth for her eternal heavenly home on October 19, 2018, following a life that was very well lived.

Dolores, as she was known to family and friends, was a devoted and cherished wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother; as well as an accomplished artist.

She was born on June 4, 1928 in Marshall, Arkansas. Dolores was a longtime member of the Willard United Methodist Church. A 1946 graduate of Springfield Senior High School, she was also a talented painter in watercolor, acrylic and oil. Following high school, she received a scholarship from Hallmark to attend the Kansas City Art Institute, where she studied for one year.

In 1951, she married her husband of 58 years, Marion. Together, they took over the family farm. The life and home they created was one of warmth and unconditional love, a place where everyone was welcome, at anytime, particularly, the grandchildren.

Dolores' devotion to her grandchildren was unmatched. From backyard baseball to cookie making, to building legendary Lego cities, even well into her 70's she was able to outplay younger generations.

Dolores and Marion's life together held its share of adventure. They loved to travel, from epic family road trips when their sons were children, to bucket list vacations in their retirement years. They drove the ALCAN highway, explored the Canadian Rockies, England, Ireland, and Scotland, and New Zealand and Australia, to name a few. Their example was a lesson for all to live life to the fullest.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Dean West, her parents, George Wayne Owens and Dorothy (Matlock) Owens and her sister Anna Wayne Owens Sloan.

She is survived by her son, Robert West and daughter-in-law Michelle; son, Stephen West and daughter-in-law Annette; beloved grandchildren, Adam and Christine; and Kyanna, whom she loved like a granddaughter. She is also survived by her great grandson Colby, who always brought a sparkle to her eyes; her brother Thomas Owens and wife Kay; and sister Rosemond (Pat) and husband Allan (Al) Clapp; and three generations of adored nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Prospect Cemetery, Bois D'Arc, following the funeral service.
