Lorene Louise (Brewer) Turner departed this life September18, 2015 at her home in Springfield, Missouri. She was 67.
She courageously fought cancer for nearly two years without giving up faith and hope.
Lorene was born May 12, 1948 to Nathan and Lora Brewer in Springfield, Missouri. She graduated from Parkview High School in 1966 and attended Draughon''s Business College. In 1967, she married Sidney O. Needem and from that union two children were born. In 1977, she married Robert Turner and had three children.
She was a member of Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church in Springfield, Mo, and St. Mark United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas. Her faith in God and prayer saw her through many dark days during her illness. Lorene spent a number of years working with and on behalf of special needs children and adults in Springfield and Wichita, Kansas.
Lorene was a devoted mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and were the light of her life. Lorene was an accomplished artist and loved to draw. In addition to her artwork, she was a talented seamstress, embroider, and cook; known for her Peach Cobblers. She loved socializing with friends and had a wonderful smile and spirit that could light up a room.
She leaves to mourn her passing five children: Sydney Dobbins (Husband Nathaniel Garfield) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sylvia Needem, Sandra (Turner) Russell (Husband Darrell Russell), and Robert Turner all residents of Springfield, Missouri and Valerie (Turner) McGilberry, of Sanford, Florida. Seven grandchildren: Calvin Dobbins, Kahlil McGilberry, Robert Turner, Lilico Corner, Lyric McGilberry, Imala Corner and Samyna Lorene Satar. Siblings: Helen Hurst, James Brewer and wife Najia Brewer, Clarence Brewer and Sandra Brewer. And a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
A "home going" celebration will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Springfield Community Center, 911 East Division, Springfield, MO 65803. Memorial donations can be made to the Springfield Community Center, or the Springfield Reunion Club, 1228 North Sherman Avenue, Springfield, MO 65802.
