Lawrence Ralph
Jones
Mar 28, 1943 — Jun 28, 2026
Lawrence Ralph Jones (Larry), 83, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026.
Larry was born on March 28, 1943, in Moline, Illinois, to Ralph Henry Jones and Velda Margaret (Smith) Jones, who both preceded him in death.
Larry spent his childhood in Moline before his family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, where he attended high school. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Oglethorpe. After two years of honorable service to his country, he was honorably discharged.
Upon returning to civilian life, Larry joined his family in Kansas City, Missouri, where he began a successful career in banking. He first worked for Chrysler Credit before joining Commerce Bank. He enjoyed a 21-year career at Commerce working at their banks in Kansas City, Columbia, and Joplin, Missouri.
During his time in Columbia, Larry had the joy to meet young twins, Piper and Pepper Walkup. They quickly became like daughters to him, and the special bond they share has continued throughout his life.
While working for Commerce Bank in Joplin, Larry met Linda Hay, who would later become his wife. In 1991, he moved to Springfield, Missouri, to join Mercantile Bank of St. Louis, where he established the bank’s indirect lending office in the Springfield market. Throughout his career Larry was a valued mentor, boss, and friend to many. Those who had the opportunity to work with or for him should count it a privilege. He retired in 2008 after many years working in the banking industry.
In his later years, Larry faced the challenges of Parkinson’s disease with dementia.
Larry is survived by Linda Jones of Springfield, Missouri; Piper Dunn of Ozark, Missouri; Pepper Brockman (George) of Ozark, Missouri; his sisters, Kathleen Reid (Sam) and Lynn Jones, both of Kansas City; and his nieces, Jennifer Chastain (Jeff), and René Reid, also of Kansas City.
Linda and Piper wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to Cecilia Kirby and the dedicated staff of the Garden House at Mission Ridge for their exceptionally kind and compassionate care they provided during Larry’s last years. They also extend their appreciation to St. Croix Hospice for their support and attentive care.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. A reception at All Saints Anglican Church will follow. Details will be announced when arrangements are finalized.
