Kenneth Swanson, 89, passed away on June 6, 2017, in The Fremont Assisted Living Facility. Ken was born in Michigan City, IN to Charles and Loretta Swanson. He graduated from Elston High School and received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Wichita State.

Ken joined the Marine Corp where he played in the Department of Pacific Band in San Francisco. Ken and Loy''s love of music brought them together, as they were both teaching music in Marion, Kansas when they were married in May 24, 1953. On a vacation to the Ozarks they decided to relocate to Springfield. Ken taught music in the Springfield Public Schools as well as at Drury, Evangel and MSU. He also played in the Springfield Symphony Orchestra for 42 years. Ken was not only a talented musician, he was also a great vocalist having sung in various church choirs for 71 years. He also wrote Music Methods books that are still being sold.

Ken and his family enjoyed camping throughout The United States, Canada and Mexico. In his retirement, he delivered Meals on Wheels, enjoyed playing bridge, ballroom dancing as well as traveling. He attended many Elderhostels and went on 17 river cruises.

Proceeding Kenneth in death are his parents, two brothers; Bill and Charles and his sister Dorothy. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Loyette Swanson (Loy); daughter Kris Swanson; sons, Eric Swanson and wife Candice; Karl Swanson and wife Mary; five grandchildren Thomas and fianc Alivia; Daniel and wife Rebecca; Stephen and wife Mallory and Phillip and James; as well as three great granddaughters, a sister Gloria and several nieces, nephews and countless friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Fremont for the loving care they provided for Ken. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kenneth''s name may be made to the Springfield Symphony Orchestra at 411 N. Sherman Parkway, Springfield, MO 65802 or St Johns Chapel United Church of Christ at 4344 S. Fremont, Springfield, MO 65804. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, June 15 at 2 pm at St Johns Chapel United Church of Christ with fellowship to follow the service.
