Obituary

Marilyn Kay Gemmill, 81, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Cox South Hospital with family by her side. She was born in Springfield, MO on Tuesday, December 6, 1938 to Laura Norene Holmes (McKown) and Gerald Burness Holmes.

Kay's family moved to California, where she graduated from high school and married her high school sweetheart. On April 27, 1957 Kay and Eugene (Gene) Gemmill where united in marriage and to this union two children were born. In 1973 the family moved back to Springfield, MO. She loved all her family and friends dearly.  Kay never met a stranger and always had a smile to share.  She enjoyed so many activities such as sewing, tole painting, gardening, Model T club activities, shopping and antiquing.  For the past 34 years she hosted "Christmas in the Country" at her house, which brought her great joy.

She was proceeded in death by her parents.

Kay is survived by her husband of 62 years, one daughter Debbie Kane (husband Joe) of St. Charles, MO, one son Ben Gemmill (wife Amy) of Springfield, MO, three grandsons Jeremy (wife Kayla), Josh (wife Kristi) and Max (fiancé Bridget), one great grandson Cooper and so many friends that she considered as family.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave., Springfield, MO 65804. With funeral services to be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Burial will take place following services at the Rivermonte Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Heart of the Ozarks Chapter Model T Club or the Springfield Humane Society.
