Joy Rhoades 89 of Springfield was born on August 2, 1927 in Oberlin, KS to Charlie and Grace (Keilwitz) Vernon. She passed away on August 30, 2016.

She married Robert Kenneth Rhoades on January 23, 1949 in Oberlin, KS. She was an RN, attended Cornerstone Church in Springfield, enjoyed collection sea shells and rocks, babysitting and was an avid reader

Joy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert and a brother Archie Vernon. She is survived by her 2 sons, William (Fortunata) Rhoades of Perry, OH and Mark (Synthia) Rhoades of Rock Island, TN; brother, Lloyd "Hap" Vernon; 2 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 9, 2016 from 5 till 7 pm at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave, Springfield. Service will be on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 10:00 am in the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date in Eastlawn Cemetery.
