Joseph W. "Joe" Iman, Jr. was born August 1, 1918 on a farm near Hatton, Mo. Growing up on the farm instilled in him a lifelong love of the outdoors. He enjoyed the best day of his life on October 21, 2012, as he passed from this life into the arms of his maker. He married Lorene Young on March 19, 1943. She survives along with their two children, daughter Sandy Elliott & husband Tom, Joplin, son Joe & wife Kathy of Nixa, grandson Tyler Iman of Nixa, granddaughters Shannon Wallner & Eden Elliott, Joplin & Britt Jordan, Bentonville. He is also survived by four sisters, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews & a host of friends including the residents & staff of Century Pines. Joe faced many challenges during his lifetime including the loss of his much beloved first grandson, Justin Elliott. Joe was a veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater with the 22nd Armored Engineer Battalion under the command of General George S. Patton. His service earned him several citations including 3 bronze stars. His patriotism, service & devotion to his country & family were a defining part of his life. He never talked much about his time in the Army but he was the most patriotic guy you would ever hope to meet. After returning home from the war, Joe suffered through the loss of one lung due to contracting TB in the war. His condition caused him to be hospitalized for 15 months. Joe refused to accept the medical diagnosis that he would never be able to work again. His undeterred commitment to support his family led him to gain employment driving over the road trucks. During his career, Joe drove for several truck lines. He transferred to Spfld with Consolidated Freightways where he achieved membership in the "Million Milers" for his safe driving. He retired from CF in 1980 but was a company man until the day he died. One of his last requests was to wear his CF hat. He was a member of Campbell United Methodist Church where he faithfully volunteered to mow the grounds for a number of years. Services to celebrate Joe''s life are planned for Friday, October 26, 2012. Visitation will be held at 10:00 at Campbell United Methodist Church in Spfld with the funeral service at 11:00. A military burial will be held at Rivermonte following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Klingner-Cope Funeral Home. Joe''s legacy exemplifies commitment to friends, country, work ethic, honesty & integrity. His undying love for his family was an instrumental point in his life. He will be sorely missed. Memorial donations may be made to St Jude''s or Season''s Hospice.
