IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan
Davies
April 14, 1937 – February 12, 2022
Our dear mom, Joan Janet Fox Davies of Nixa, Missouri, entered eternal rest on February 12, 2022. She was born to the late Sidney Fox and Dorothy Evans Fox in Auxvasse, Missouri on April 14, 1937.
Brave, outgoing and passionate, Joan tackled life with a determination seldom seen. After attending Jefferson City Junior College, she wanted to see more of the world and proudly became a flight attendant for TWA. Home based in Chicago, she often spoke of meeting movie stars and even had Howard Hughes on one of her flights. After marrying and having kids, Joan focused on her family, devoting herself to their needs. During this time, she worked various jobs at medical clinics, and eventually decided she would pursue a college degree in health education. Driving 140 miles round trip daily, Joan would attend classes and come home to put dinner on the table for her family. She persevered in all she put her mind to and at the age of 44 she achieved her Bachelor's degree in education from Sam Houston State University. She taught 18 years at various schools, retiring from Nixa High School (NHS) in 1999. One of her proudest accomplishments was pioneering the Students Against Destructive Decisions Program (SADD) at NHS. Joan was passionate about the safety of her students and led them in developing a SADD commercial that aired on KY3. This commercial was nationally recognized and won prestigious awards, and later, Joan was selected to be the SADD National President. Joan was especially proud of these achievements. She saw her students as additional family to her own, which throughout her life was always foremost in her heart and mind.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard Charles Davies, her sister Judy Fox Owens and her parents.
She is survived by her children, Lance Davies (Cindy) of Nixa, MO, Cameron Davies (Diana) of The Woodlands, TX, and Ric Davies (Beth) of Springdale, AR; daughter, Julie Davies Jones of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Ryan (Amy), Jacob (Hannah), Cal, Brett, Taylor and Brandon; brother Gene Fox; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte in Springfield, Missouri on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. We will be celebrating Joan's faith and deep love for her family.
