Jessie Benjamine Hamby was born October 26, 1926 in Cedar County, Missouri near Jerico Springs. He was the fourth born of five children to Parker and Edna Hamby. Jessie served his country in World War II on the USS Light Cruiser Astoria. After his service in the Navy, he married Mary Smith in 1950. They enjoyed 68 years together
Jessie worked at Lily Tulip and retired after 30 years. He loved fishing, quail, pheasant and turkey hunting, bowling and golfing. He also loved mowing and caring for his lawn. Most important he loved and lived for the Lord and raised his children to do the same.
Jessie went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2021. He is survived by his three children, Mary Ellen Crighton (husband Ron) of Willard, Missouri, Ben Hamby (wife Nancy) of Winter Springs, Florida, and Yvonne Clay (husband Mike) of Fort Worth, Texas, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many loved nieces, nephews and friends. Thank you to Ash Grove Healthcare for their care and compassion, and to family and friends for their love and prayers.
Graveside Service for Jessie Hamby will be Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 10:00 am at White Chapel Memorial Gardens 5234 W. State Highway EE Springfield, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Klingner Cope at White Chapel Family Funeral Home.
