Obituary

James A. Enlow, age 86, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

Born on September 27, 1939, in Springfield, James was the son of Alfred and Margaret Enlow. He spent his life rooted in the Springfield community, where he built lasting friendships and cherished memories.

James was known for his warm spirit and vibrant personality. An avid fisherman, he found joy and peace on the water. He spent countless weekends at the lake drowning worms with friends and family, sharing stories, laughter, and the kind of easy companionship that made everyone feel welcome. He loved to sing, sharing his voice with those around him, and was a gifted storyteller whose jokes brought laughter to countless gatherings. In his retirement, he delighted in singing karaoke, bringing joy to friends and family with his music and humor. Above all, James deeply loved his family and cherished the companionship of his many friends.

James's relationships were the heart of his life. He was a steady and loving presence for his children, offering guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear whenever it was needed. His grandchildren and greatgrandchildren brought him tremendous pride, and he never missed an opportunity to brag about their accomplishments or share a funny story about them. To his sisters, he remained a loyal brother, someone they could depend on, laugh with, and reminisce about the old days. And to his friends, James was the kind of man who showed up: whether for a fishing trip, a cup of coffee, or a late night karaoke session, he made time for the people he cared about. His kindness, humor, and genuine interest in others created lifelong bonds that will be remembered with gratitude.

He is survived by his two sisters, Martha Trivett and Mary Schwartz, both of Springfield; his two sons, Dale Enlow of Green Forest, Arkansas, and Henry Enlow of Sparta, Missouri; and his daughter, Shelly Enlow of Eldon, Missouri. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eighteen greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Enlow; his son, Michael Enlow; his parents, Alfred and Margaret Enlow; and his two brothers, John Enlow and Paul Enlow.

James will be remembered not only for his passions but also for the love and light he brought into the lives of family and friends. As Scripture reminds us, "From whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name" (Ephesians 3:15), his life was a testament to the strength of family and the joy of shared love.
