Obituary

James Elliott Carrell went home to be with the Lord and loved ones before him on October 22, 2013 at 8:20 a.m. in the Mount Vernon''s Veterans Home. He was 82 years old. James was born March 12, 1931 in Osceola, Missouri to the late Evelena Harper and Mooch Carrell. At 13 James moved to Springfield, MO to live with his older sister. As a young man James was no stranger to hard work, he proudly served with the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War, in which he received a Purple Heart. While helping raise 6 kids, he held many jobs, sometimes two or three at once including the United States Postal Service where he retired after 32 years.

James was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruby Carrell, sons James Jr. Carrell and Bobby Carter, daughter Wilma, long-time partner Estella Coker, two brothers Dave Carrell and Phillip Carrell, two sisters Emma Johnson and Olivet Ford. He is survived by four children, daughters Frances Carlock (MO), Joyce Carter (CA), and Shirley (NV) and son Ralph Carter of (CA) along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends. He will be missed.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 in Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home, 1635 N. Benton, Springfield, MO with a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. to follow in the Missouri Veteran''s Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Rd, Springfield, MO.
