Howard Herbert Thomas, 93, of Bois D'Arc, MO passed away on January 10, 2021 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, MO. He was born on January 6, 1928 in Mountain Grove, MO to Leonard and Dora (Hart) Thomas.
Howard lived and worked on a farm for most of his life. He was a US Army Veteran for almost 10 years and served his country during the Korean War as a Construction Engineer. Howard received many honors, including the National Defense Service medal, UN Service medal, the Korean Service medal with two bronze stars (Republic of Korea) with a Presidential Unit Citation and Good Conduct medal. He retired from Dayco after 27 years as a Production Operator. Howard was saved as a young boy and attended the Sac River Cowboy Church in Springfield, MO. He enjoyed farming, hunting (especially for pheasant up north), square dancing in his younger years, looking forward to the "next big blowout" with friends and family and giving wise life advice. Howard's favorite food was desserts; he loved gooseberry pie and chocolate.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, one son Stephen Thomas, one sister Verba Long and one brother Harry Thomas.
Howard is survived by his two children Teresa Tummons (husband Terry) of Bois D'Arc, MO and Michael Thomas (wife Lana) of Fair Grove, MO, two brothers Harold Thomas (wife Marion) and Charles Thomas (wife Sue), one sister Louise Idleman (husband Harold), six grandchildren Tonnica Tummons (fiancé Jonah Falk), Tori Tummons, Tyler Tummons, Eli Thomas, Isaac Thomas and Silas Thomas and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
A visitation will take place from 1-2 PM on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel, 5234 W. State Hwy EE, Springfield, MO 65802 with funeral services to follow at 2 PM. Full military honors will be conducted at the Brookline Cemetery.
