IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hosea Carl
Pfeifer
December 31, 1960 – August 31, 2021
Hosea Carl Pfeifer, better known as "H.C.", gracefully passed away on the evening of August 31, 2021. H.C. was born on December 31, 1960 in Springfield, MO. He was born and raised on the north side of Springfield and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1979. While in high school H.C. was a standout baseball player and was a member of Hillcrest's 1979 state championship squad. After high school he continued his academic and athletic career at Evangel University where he graduated in 1983. H.C.'s athletic accolades at Evangel earned him a place in Evangel's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. However, he would be quick to point out the most important thing that he achieved while at Evangel was having Pamela Hope Metscher marry him in the summer of 1983.
After getting married, H.C. worked as a carpenter building furniture. His passion for wood working stayed with him the rest of his life. After working as a carpenter, H.C. would eventually be hired as the youth pastor at Hamlin Baptist church. A position that started his lifelong calling to minister to young people, especially on the north side of Springfield. He served as the youth pastor at Hamlin for 14 years before transitioning into the role that he is most remembered for, Coach Pfeifer. H.C. began teaching down the street from Hamlin at Reed Middle School and remained there until he retired earlier this year.
To those who knew him they will remember a man who was hardworking and had overwhelming passion for life. To those closest to him, they will remember a man who was anchored in his faith in Christ, his unrelenting love for his family, and his love of laughter. He was always visible at both of his children's events and was seen often at local high schools where he supported his former students.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hosea and Phyllis Pfeifer; his nephew, David Sterling Hawley; and niece, Kelsey Shannaee Lenox as well as brother in law Bob Brown. He is survived by his wife, Pam Pfeifer; his son, Andy Pfeifer and his wife, Brittany; his daughter, Rachel Pfeifer; and his three grandchildren, Rylann, Tenlee, and Emery. He is also survived by his sisters, Becky Hawley (David) and Nancy Brown as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on September 10 at Hamlin Baptist Church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to the North Side Blue and Gray Baseball Association.
