IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold Roy
Hiser
March 1, 1951 – January 18, 2023
Harold Roy Hiser passed away on January 18, 2023, at the age of 71. The son of Alvin and Mary Hiser, he was born in Springfield, MO on March 1, 1951. Harold graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1969. He had a love for electronics and was a part of VICA and attended Vo-Tech. When he was younger, he enjoyed scouts and playing baseball and tennis. Harold's nickname in Kiwanis Baseball was "HAP," because he was always smiling, even if he struck out at bat. He joined the Air Force after high school and was excited to study electronics and TV repair where he was very gifted. In May of 1971, he came home on leave and was in a devastating car accident with his family, causing severe injuries, which changed his life forever. He became 100% disabled from the Air Force as Airman First Class in 1973. Even though he had many obstacles to overcome, including relearning how to walk, talk, and perform daily activities with a traumatic brain injury, he never complained and never gave up. His sense of humor and smile remained the same as it was before. His famous line was, "My name is Father Geraldo," and he called everyone "Son." Those close to him understood his quirky humor. He was always generously giving and trying to help others. He would give anyone his last dollar if he thought they needed it. He loved eating out and would treat himself and his guests to the most expensive things on the menu. He was well trained in the garden by his parents and became a gifted gardener just like them. He could grow anything and took so much pride in it. He also loved sharing his produce with others. In May of 2018, he moved into the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt Vernon, MO and was cared for by an incredible staff. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, generous heart and the deep desire to bring joy and laughter into any room.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Mary Hiser, and one sister Marilyn Morgan.
He is survived by his daughters, Heather Bruce, Candice (Candi) and husband Charlie Brown, and Christina Hiser, his grandchildren Anthony, Shaylee and Mataya Bruce, Liam, Aidan and Amelia Brown, and Ariana and Bricen Morales, and great granddaughter Paisley Bruce, and his sister Phyllis (Jim) Bumgarner.
