Harold Duane Braughton, 84, of Fort Smith, AR, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Friday September 14, 2018. He was born August 4, 1934 to Virgil and Nora Lee (Scroggins) in Altus, OK.
He spent his younger years living in Hot Springs, AR. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1954. Harold married Betty Jean (McMoran) in Black Mountain, NC on August 4, 1954. To this union they were blessed with four children; David, Larry, Susan and Kevin. They were married 33 years before Betty passed away in 1988. Harold married Virginia (Holliday) in Eureka Springs, AR on May 27, 1989. Harold worked as the comptroller for Erickson Transport for 30 years. He served as Deacon at Village Baptist Church in Bella Vista, AR for many years. Harold loved to golf and bowl, was a huge Razorbacks fan and enjoyed traveling.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, step-daughter; Jarita Dale and a brother Roy.
Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife, Virginia, children; David Braughton and wife Karen, Larry Braughton and wife Margaret, Susan Braughton and Kevin Braughton, step-children; Bill Dillard and wife Rita, Shelby Dillard and wife Joy, Tina Clark and husband Ken, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, brothers; Thurman and wife Kathy and Bill and wife Sherry, a host of nieces, nephews and countless friends. Harold will be missed by all whose lives had been touched by him.
A Graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday September 19, 2018 at 2 o'clock p.m at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens (4500 South Lone Pine, Springfield, MO). Family has requested memorial donations be made in Harold's honor to The American Heart Association (3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674).
