Harold MacLachlan Boyd, age 93, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022. He was born August 21, 1928 in Galloway to J. Sherman and Lillian (MacLachlan) Boyd. Harold grew up in Galloway, which was not part of Springfield at the time. He attended the original Sequiota School and then Rogersville High School. At a youthful age Harold served two years in the Merchant Marines and returned to Galloway and went to work for an aluminum manufacturing company. Harold met and then married Wanda Freeman on December 1, 1949. They celebrated 72 years together. In 1952 he was drafted into the Marine Corps. Harold served in Korea in the Marine Corps as an aircraft structural mechanic. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant during his six years of service. Upon returning home Harold resumed his job at the aluminum manufacturing plant. The owners of the company, Mr. and Mrs. Squires, named the company Boyd Aluminum Manufacturing because Harold was the plant manager. He worked into his 80's and retired after 49 years of service with Boyd Aluminum Manufacturing Company. Harold liked to work with his hands. He enjoyed wood carving and he spent hours coloring in adult coloring books in his later years, leaving us a legacy of his talent and artistic ability.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers Gene Boyd and John Boyd.

Harold is survived by his wife Wanda; two brothers Jim Boyd of Springfield and Richard Boyd of Jacksonville, NC; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
