IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gwendolyn Pearl
Fawcett
January 15, 1924 – January 26, 2026
Gwendolyn Pearl Fawcett ( Hurrell), age 102, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026. She was born on January 15, 1924, in High Wykham, Norfolk County, England, approximately 90 miles north of London, and lived a long and meaningful life marked by strength, service, creativity, and grace.
Gwendolyn proudly served in the Royal Air Force from 1941 to 1945 during World War II. During the war, she married John Fawcett, an American GI serving in World War II, on September 16, 1944. Following the war, she immigrated to the United States in 1946, beginning a new chapter defined by hard work, resilience, and dedication to family and community.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Fawcett, who died in 1996; five sisters and one brother; and her beloved grandson, J.D. Fawcett of Norton, Kansas.
She is survived by her son, Hadyn Fawcett (wife Judy), and her daughter, Cynthia Ziegler; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Gwendolyn had a lifelong love for creating with her hands. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and crocheting and took great pride in the many beautiful items she lovingly made for family and friends throughout her life. She also cherished spending time with her family and was a gifted storyteller, delighting loved ones with memories and stories from her long and full life.
In 1958, Gwendolyn opened her own beauty shop in Norton, Kansas, beginning a remarkable career as a business owner. She owned and operated the shop for 35 years, from 1958 until 1993, serving her community with dedication and care. Her beauty shop was more than a business—it was a place of conversation, connection, and lasting friendships. In 1993, she retired and moved to Springfield, Missouri, where she spent the remainder of her years.
Belonging to a remarkable generation, Gwendolyn witnessed more than a century of change and carried with her a quiet wisdom earned through a lifetime of experience. She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her service to others, her creativity, her love of family, and the enduring legacy she leaves in the lives she touched.
