Obituary

On October 10, 1924 in Springfield, MO. A baby girl was born to the union of Aaron & Willie Franklin.

They named her Georgia Queen after her grandmother, Georgia and her Aunt, Queen Esther.

Georgia attended Old Lincoln School. She united with Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age. She belonged to the choir & taught Sunday School.

She united in marriage to Earnest Hancock and to this union two daughters were born, Shelia and Annette.

After the death of her father, she moved membership to Benton Ave A.M.E. Church to be with her mother. She was President of the Usher Board, Trustee Board, Secretary of Sunday School and served wherever she was needed.

Georgia loved people, not liking some of their ways; they may not have liked some of hers but she loved them just the same.

She united in marriage to Charles C. Burton and obtained an extended family of three.

She and Charles loved to travel; three trips to Hawaii, one to Jamaica, two cruises to the Bahamas and several cross country bus trips.

Georgia belonged to several social clubs, Springfield Heart Association, Springfield Jazz Society, Key Club, Our Night Out, Greater Truth Chapter, #88 OES, the Bissett Neighborhood Association, President & Vice President of Church Women United, JCPenney elevator operator, J.J. Newburry, Time Keeper, Springfield Food Service System (Weller Elementary), Avon Representative, & manager of Harry Cooper Supply Cafeteria.

After retirement she spent time visiting the hospitals and shut-ins. She was never a stay-at-home person. Whether it was lunch or movies with friends, she enjoyed her family dinners, shopping or just getting together.

She was always willing to help anyone. She said when she made someone happy, it made her happy also.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, father and mother, Aaron & Willie Franklin, her husbands,  Earnest Hancock & Charles C. Burton, and two children, Clifford & Connie Burton.

She leaves to mourn her demise two daughters, Shelia Burton (Matthew) of Springfield, MO and Annette Beasley of Kansas City, MO; one son, Charles Burton; grands, great-grands and great-great-grands, and a host of relatives and friends.

When I Must Leave You

When I must leave you for a little while,

Please do not grieve and shed wild tears

And hug your sorrow to you through the years,

But start out bravely with a gallant smile;

And for my sake and in my name

Live on and do all things the same,

Feed not your loneliness on empty days,

But fill each waking hour in useful ways,

Reach out your hand in comfort and cheer

And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near;

And never, never be afraid to die,

For I am waiting for you in the sky!
