Obituary

Eugene Alan Gemmill, 84, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Cox South Hospital
after a brief illness. He was born in Chino, CA to Gayle Gemmill (Edwards) and Myron Gemmill.

Gene grew up on the family farm where he and his three brothers helped his parent's growing
potatoes, corn, cabbage and raising livestock. He attended school in Ontario, CA, and after
graduating from high school he joined the Navy in November, 1956, serving as a Fire Control
Tech on the USS Cabildo. He married his high school sweetheart Kay Gemmill on April 27,
1957, and they had two children. After leaving the service in October, 1959, he hired on with
General Telephone and worked many positions before vacationing in Springfield, MO, in July
1973 and deciding to make the move for the better life in the Ozarks. He worked jobs to get by
until he was hired on with Southwestern Bell Telephone and retired from the company in 1991
with 17 years of service.

He worked as a contractor for several years and had his own lawn care service after retiring.
These jobs allowed him to enjoy his hobbies - fishing, working on cars, and eventually he
became involved with his passion, driving his Model T's and his 1932 Ford. Through his Model
T Club activities, he formed many friendships and participated and helped organize Hillbilly
Tours, monthly drives and activities. He enjoyed Steak-N-Shake cruise in's and Kearney Street
drives with friends and son, Ben.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, and his wife Kay in 2020.

Gene is survived by his daughter Debbie Kane (husband Joe) of St Charles, MO, son Ben
Gemmill (wife Amy) of Springfield, MO, three grandsons Jeremy (wife Kayla), Josh (wife Kristi)
and Max (wife Bridget), 2 great-grandsons, Cooper and Crew and so many cherished friends
that he considered family.
