Mr. Gene E. Eflin, 96, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025 in Springfield, MO.
Gene Eldon Eflin was born on Sunday, December 16, 1928 in Mahaska County, Iowa to Marvin and Eva (Dunlap) Eflin. Gene graduated from Montezuma High School and then attended Central Bible Institute and Seminary and graduated in 1950. While attending college, Gene met his future wife, Margaret Kay and was married after completing school on June 15, 1950. Gene and Margaret had two sons, Carey and Robert. Robert died in December of 2004.
Gene worked in accounting and as a Corporate Officer for thirteen years. He retired in 1992. He would volunteer his time doing the accounting for People's Missions International (PMI). Their emphasis was "reaching the unreachable". Gene assisted them for six years. In 1995, three years into retirement, Gene started taking missionary trips to Africa. He served on many missionary trips to include, Nairobi, Kenya and Niger. In 1997, He taught his first course in an overseas Bible school. The next year 1998, he taught a block course in New Testament Survey at a French speaking Bible school in Niamey, the capitol city of Niger. His last trip to Niger was in 2003. He taught three courses back-to-back for four hours a day. Each course was two weeks long including the exam and were in the Hausa language commonly spoken throughout northern and southern Niger with the help of a Translator. All together he visited Africa five time.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret Eflin, and one son, Robert Eflin.
He is survived by his son, Carey Eflin; his brother Jack Eflin; and his sister, Joyce Jansz.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 21, 2025 in the Klingner-Cope Funeral Home Rivermonte, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave. Springfield, MO 65804 with Pastor Dick Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the Rivermonte Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
