Viola Frances Osburn was born Thursday, August 18th, 1938 in Springfield, Missouri to Harold E. and Marie J (Henson) Carlson. She Passed away on Thursday, July 25th, 2024 at Cedarhurst Senior Living in Springfield, Missouri.
Frances graduated from Springfield Senior High School now known as Central High School in 1956. On October 22nd, 1960 Frances Carlson and Dean Osburn were married at 1st Church of God in Springfield, Missouri. Dean and Francis had two daughters.
As a teenager, Frances 'first job was at Taylor's Drive-in. Then she was employed at Woolworth located on the Springfield Square. In 1970 Frances started her career in food service with Springfield Public Schools. She worked for many years at Wilder Elementary as a cook, and then moved on to being the kitchen manager at Hickory Hills Elementary/Junior High. She retired in 1999.
Frances was a long time member of 2nd Baptist Church, Springfield, Missouri, for over 55 years. She was very active at church serving as a 4th grade girls Sunday school teacher and a girls G.A.'s for many years. Also, she was very active with Vacation Bible School. In later years she helped with book fairs and in many other ways at church.
Frances was very talented with arts and crafts. She enjoyed sewing and crochet. She was an excellent cook and loved to host cookouts and holiday celebrations for family and friends. When her daughters were young, she enjoyed family camping trips and then later visits to see the grandchildren. Frances loved being a grandma and great grandma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Harold Gene, Sister Joyce, Grandson Andrew, father-in-law Ernest, Mother-in-law Georgia, brother-in-law Leon, sisters-in-law Carol, Barbara, and Glenda.
Frances is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dean, 2 daughters, 2 son-in-law's, 4 grandchildren and spouses, 5 great grandchildren, brother Charles, sister-in-law Mary, brother-in-law Keith, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 2:30-3:00 PM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave., Springfield, MO 65804 with funeral services to follow at 3 PM. She will be laid to rest in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 1 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to "Missions Fund" at 2nd Baptist Church, 3111 East Battlefield Road, Springfield, Missouri, 65904.
