Obituary

Evelyn Louise Haslam, 98, of Ozark, MO passed peacefully at the home of her son and his wife on Saturday, January 1, 2022. She was born on Tuesday, October, 23, 1923 in Cabool, MO, one of four children of Falus Palmer, Sr. and Myrtle Palmer, and was the surviving child of the family.

Evelyn's maternal grandfather was the first mayor of Cabool and helped found the town. She said her long life was attributable to the early values she learned growing up there: love of family, faith, hard work and perseverance. Born just before the depression, like many others of the time, Evelyn's early life paired school and work. Her father started various businesses in Cabool, including a general store, a boarding house and family dairy farm. She worked on the family farm from an early age, including delivering milk before dawn to customers in the area. Without electricity in the family home during primary school, she studied by the light of candles. She graduated Cabool High School in 1941. She moved to Oregon in 1950, then to Southern California, where she stayed for 50 years. She lived longest in Santa Ana, where she raised two children as a working single mother. In 1957, she purchased the first of her homes in Santa Ana. In 1970, she married Roy Haslam, the love of her life, who preceded her in death in 1978. Evelyn lived independently in her own home in Ozark until three months ago. She loved her family, garage sales, volunteering and a good country song. Evelyn was courageous, resilient, funny and most importantly, loving to her family and friends. She remained devoted to the Lord, no matter the triumphs or tragedies that she encountered.

She is survived by her two sons Donald (spouse Debbie) of Ozark, MO and David of Las Vegas, NV, four grandchildren Jessica (spouse Brandon), Joshua (spouse Danielle), Sarah (spouse Zac) and Emma, five great grandchildren and nieces Lynda Folsom and Anna Lou Weir of California.
