IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evangeline Mae
Hall
September 21, 1941 – April 12, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Evangeline (Vangie) Mae Hall announce that she passed on to Heaven on April 12, 2025 at the age of 83. Vangie passed peacefully with her husband, J.D. Hall at her side at their home in Nixa, Missouri.
Vangie was born on September 21, 1941 in Fergus, Ontario, Canada to Reverend Leslie Smith and Mrs. Ethel Smith. She and her siblings, Ross and Joye accompanied their parents to China in 1947 where they served as missionaries, sharing the Gospel with the Chinese people. Mao's revolution was well underway when they arrived. Missionaries were forced out upon Mao's victory in 1949. The family returned to Toronto and her brother Ray was born in 1951. The family moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1953 and continued serving in the church. Vangie attended Parkview High School and met J.D. Hall, a handsome athlete who teased her quite a bit in class. They didn't date until after high school. They married on January 5, 1962 in Miami, Oklahoma and took up residence in Springfield. Their first child, Sherri Rene' was born nine months later, with Angela Dawn arriving in 1964. The family relocated to Neosho, Missouri in August 1964 where J.D. started his career with the Missouri Highway Patrol. The couple welcomed their third daughter, Julie Michele in 1966.
Vangie had a deep faith in Jesus and she and J.D. made it a priority to raise their family in the Christian Faith. She was very active in the church and served as church organist at Northside Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church in Neosho and she taught Sunday School for many years. Vangie taught her daughters to sing three-part harmony when they were very young, and she played piano for them. The girls sang at churches and area talent shows over the years. They were called The Hall Sisters and Hall's Angels throughout their childhood. She was administrative assistant at Neosho Parks & Recreation Department in Neosho for 14 years and retired in 1996. She enjoyed being a mother, wife and homemaker. She was a fantastic cook and baker. She loved to entertain and host family dinners. She was a very talented singer, pianist, organist and artist. She dearly loved her five grandchildren, Carlie, Andrew, Sam, Riley and Ross and each of them would say she was a fun and
wonderful Nana. Her great-grandson, Diem loved playing with Nana and eating her famous chocolate cookies. Vangie had a great sense of humor. She would get tickled at something and laugh until she cried – especially when she was with her sister, Joye. She loved birds and music.
Vangie and J.D. moved to the Springfield area in 2023 to live closer to family. She suffered with Dementia for several years but never lost her sense of humor or ability to recognize family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Marshall Smith, her father, Leslie W. Smith and brother, Ross Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James D. Hall; her dog, Buddy and daughters (and sons in-law) Scott & Sherri (Hall) Tjaden, Brian & Angela (Hall) Campbell, Mike and Julie (Hall) Romstad; grandchildren, Carlie Campbell, Marinaro Calera, Andrew Campbell, Samuel Zerkel, Riley Romstad and Ross Romstad and one great-grandchild, Diem Marinaro; siblings, Vernon & Joye (Smith) Killen, Raymond Smith and several nephews and nieces who dearly loved her.
Vangie's passions were Jesus, Family and Music. She will truly be missed but we know that we will see her again in His Kingdom. What a glorious day that will be!
