While attending Bono (AR) High School, Emma met her high school sweetheart, Charles Wayne Caples, whom she married a couple of months after their graduation in 1955.Soon thereafter, they moved to Detroit, Michigan, for better job opportunities. Emma went to work for GMAC in Dearborn, MI.

In January 1973, they moved their family to Springfield, Missouri to be closer to their families. Emma worked at 3M for just over four years before getting a job with the local GMAC office. She was able to take an early retirement option in 1986. In May of 1996 they moved to Rogersville, Missouri, where they resided until her death on September 25, 2025.
