IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorris Dollese
Jackson
May 10, 1924 – January 6, 2024
Dorris Dollese Frazier Jackson May 10, 1924 – January 6, 2024
Born May 10, 1924, in Promised Land, Arkansas to Leslie and Nora Frazier, Dorris was the middle of three children. Growing up on the farm in Northeast Arkansas and later Southeast Missouri instilled not only a love of family, but also an ethic of hard work, and taking care of those around her. She spent her entire life tirelessly caring for others and possessed a true servant's heart.
On May 27, 1937, when she was 13 years old, she was born again, accepting Christ as her Savior. She was baptized a second time in the Baptist church in Tupelo, Mississippi when she was 27 years old.
When Dorris was 15 years old, attending Cooter High School, a new boy to the school walked past her as she was seated at her desk, he stopped and looked down at her and said, "I'll marry you one day". To which she replied, "You think you will!" That young man was Reginald Lloyd Jackson, (known to most as Hot or RL) and the two were married on October 19, 1941, after Dorris had graduated from high school as valedictorian of her class. The two were married for 55 years, and her love for him never ended even after his passing in 1995. They lovingly referred to each other as "Chur", short for "Sugar".
Dorris started working as a bookkeeper after her marriage to RL, and when the United States was drawn into World War II, RL joined the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed in Brooklyn following his training. In 1942, for the first time in her life Dorris boarded a train that took her to New York City. What was intended to be a 1 week stay turned into 2 years where Dorris worked at The Williamsburg Savings Bank. When RL was shipped to the Pacific, Dorris found herself in Morehouse, Missouri, keeping books for the Wayside Gin Company. Dorris continued to keep books until 2020 either at the cotton gin, the hardware store, or Buck Stove, that were owned by her and RL, and later for her daughter, at Linda Childs Real Estate.
After the war ended RL and Dorris welcomed two daughters, Linda, and Regina. She remained close to both girls through daily talks and sharing of one another's lives with complete adoration of them.
In June of 1980, Dorris and RL moved from Morehouse to Springfield, Missouri where they were members and a fixture at South Haven Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, led Sunday school classes, and was a handy reference for any pastor who needed a little more information about biblical principles or history for his sermon.
In 2005, Dorris traveled to Israel, where she was able to walk the same ground that Christ did. This pilgrimage brought to life her faith, and lifelong study of the Bible. Dorris' faith, and her continual study of the Bible was not only necessary to her, but it also provided inspiration, and comfort to others. Every day, without fail, she would pray for her list of people. Many of those people she never met, and yet she prayed. Once you were on her list, you remained, and as the list grew, so did her time in prayer.
Dorris enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. She was such a fixture for them that most people simply called her "Grandmother". Everyone was always greeted with a big smile and hug. All she met immediately realized how special she was. One of her many gifts was that as a storyteller. She would gladly tell stories of her family growing up, her time in New York, or about the life she and "Chur" made. Whether it was around the dinner table or while sitting and visiting, everyone in the room would listen and laugh as she recounted in great detail the events of her past. Along with the humor, there was always a component of faith, and a lesson of God's love. Above all, Dorris' devotion to her Savior, in prayer, and every aspect of her life, changed those around her for the better, and provided a legacy of faith and love for all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Nora Frazier, brother Raymond Frazier, sister Dorothy Faye Shaffar, Husband Reginald Lloyd Jackson, and daughter Linda Childs.
Dorris is survived by her daughter Regina McLean, grandchildren Timothy Childs (Angel), Jeffery Childs (Alexis), Keri Martin (Tyson), Andrew McLean (Amy), Erika Lord (Scott), Christina Harvey (John), 17 great- grandchildren, and 9 great- great- grandchildren.
Shortly before her passing she said, "I came to serve, and I have served. I'm going home."
